It affects most frequently horses that are veil and in prime condition and especially those working steadily, but for one or another reason are left idle for a short time on a full ration. Hence the disease is spoken of as "Holiday sickness" or "Monday morning sickness." WebClinical signs usually are observed shortly after onset of exercise. Excessive sweating, tachypnea, tachycardia, muscle fasciculations, reluctance or refusal to move, and firm, painful lumbar and gluteal musculature are common clinical signs. Episodes range from subclinical to severe muscle necrosis with recumbency and myoglobinuric renal failure.
